Thursday is the new Friday

When I got pregnant I always pictured how life would be once I had my baby. This image consisted of me being that working mom, in a suit, that dropped the kids off at school. And I loved this image. I also love the image of being a stay at home mom. I love my job but I love being home with my baby. How can I have both?

I was constantly dreaming up ideas that would allow me to spend more time at home. I returned back to work from maternity leave February 1st. I was somewhat excited but of course I still wanted to be at home taking care of my new born baby. My head was a work but my heart was at home.

It’s been 4 months since I have been back at work and I want nothing more than to be at home with my daughter. I was on vacation recently and we had so much fun together. We had our lazy mornings, we went shopping, we went to the pool, we had lunch dates and we got to play with friends. This time that we spent together was so special to me.

I found out from a coworker and our employee handbook that I can work at least 30 hours a week and still get full benefits. I didn’t know if this was even possible or realistic. I figured out our budget and how much of a cut we would be taking and surprisingly it wasn’t that much. I am totally willing to give up some things to be able to have one free day during the week to spend with Kinsley. So I got really excited about this new information I stumbled upon. I went to my boss and proposed this information to him. He totally understood my reasoning’s and he truly admired me for them. He really believes family should come first. I am so blessed to have a boss that understands and supports this. We discussed it further and it was suggested that Thursday be my new Friday. I will now only work a 4 day work week. That gives me the benefit of having 3 days off with my daughter and 4 days at work. I still get paid and I still have benefits.
My prayers have finally been answered.

Jody and I couldn’t be happier for this new change.
I am already planning a special trip for Kinsley and I to go see my grandmother our first Friday off together.
